Creating a Steam Group

I will give you instructions on how to create and maintain a Steam group.

Creating a Group

Look for your name along the top of the Steam Community homepage. Hover over it and then select "Groups" from the drop-down. This page will show you all of the groups you're currently a member of.

Click on the link along the top which says "Create a new group".

The next screen will allow you to specify the Group Name, Abbreviation (Clan Tag) and the Group link. It will also let you decide if you want your group to be public or private.

Once you've filled in all of the required fields click on Create.

You can access your newly created group at anytime by revisiting your groups page.

Group Profile

You're able to customize your group by selecting the "Edit Group Profile" link located within the "Admin Tools" box on the right side of your Steam group.

The first series of options allows you to adjust your groups headline, summary, abbreviation and custom URL. This is also where you'll find your group ID which is used for API functions.

The second series of options allows you to define your groups primary language, set an avatar and associated games.

The third series of options lets you set up to three custom links.

When you're done select "Save Changes".

You'll be able to see your changes on the right side of your Steam group and within the "About" box located on the "Overview" page.

Features

Steam Groups are a great way to communicate with a large number of players at once. Along the top bar of a group you have four primary ways of doing this.

Every time you create an announcement members of your group will receive a notification on Steam.

Group administrators can create an announcement by clicking on the "Announcements" tab and then clicking on the "Post an Announcement" link.

Whenever you schedule a group event a popup will appear on the screen of every group member.

Group administrators can create a scheduled event by clicking on the "Events" tab and clicking on the "Schedule an Event" link. When creating an event you'll be asked to provide several fields of information such as a start time and timezone.

Steam groups come with a built in discussion board where members can create and reply to threads.

Group administrators have the ability to ban members and add or remove forum sections.

Group moderators are given access to the moderator tools which let them remove, merge, move and lock individual topics.

Steam groups also come with their own group chat. Group members can join the chat by selecting the "Enter Chat Room" button at the top of the group. They are also able to access it via the groups tab on the Steam friends list.

Permissions

You're able to assign permissions to each member level by clicking on the "Edit Group Permissions" link found with the "Admin Tools" box.

Almost every action from inviting group members to posting announcements can be restricted or opened to whatever user group you like. From this page you can also choose if you'd like your group to be public or private.

Group members can be promoted, demoted or removed from the group by clicking on the "Members" tab and then choosing "Manage Group Members" within the "Admin Tools" box.

Click the icon on a member to promote them to an officer or moderator
Click the icon on an officer to demote them to a member
Click the icon on a member to permanently remove them from the group (Only if the group is set to private)

Close

You need to sign in or create an account to do that.
